CINCINNATI – Nearly $6 million in improvements are starting on West Martin Luther King Drive between Hopple Street and Brookline Avenue just east of Clifton Avenue. Traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction to accommodate crews, which began prepping the nearly mile-long work zone this month.
On Monday, April 3, crews will begin installing a retaining wall on the north side of the roadway between Hopple and Dixmyth.
As part of the project, crews also will:
- Install a new storm water line
- Construct new roadway, sidewalks and driveways, widening and shifting the roadway north
- Grind and pave the roadway
- Replace curbs and curb ramps, as needed
- Repair driveway aprons and sidewalks, as needed
- Adjust utility castings to grade
- Improve the intersections at Dixmyth Avenue, Clifton Avenue and Brookline Drive
- Construct a 12-foot multiuse path on the north side of West MLK between West McMicken and Clifton avenues
Crews relocated utilities last year.
The project in the CUF neighborhoods of Clifton Heights, University Heights and Fairview is being paid for with a combination of federal, state and city funds. It is expected to wrap up by the end of the year.
