CINCINNATI – Crews will be installing track for the Cincinnati Streetcar on Walnut Street where it curves onto Second at The Banks starting at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, until Friday, March 30. The work will require the closure of Second Street between Vine and Walnut streets, and Walnut between Second and Freedom Way.
This portion of track leads to Stop 1, the southern-most point on the streetcar’s 3.8-mile route between The Banks at the riverfront and Over-the-Rhine in the north.
“March is a very busy month as the construction season gets into full swing. The combination of several construction projects in the urban core is exciting, but creates challenges. We are redoubling our efforts to improve access for motorists and pedestrians,” said Harry Black, Cincinnati City Manager.
To help maintain traffic flow and allow access to Interstates 71 and 471, a left-turn lane from Walnut onto Second Street will remain open while streetcar work is under way. Detour signage will be posted. In addition, Cincinnati Police will manually operate signals at key intersections during morning and afternoon rush hours and during special events.
See the attached map for suggested alternate routes and access to public parking throughout The Banks’ area.
Pedestrian access will be maintained via a temporary crosswalk midblock on Second between Vine and Walnut. Directional signage will be posted. Sidewalks on both sides of Second Street will remain open.
Work at General Electric’s U.S. Global Operations Center and apartments at The Banks on Second Street between Rosa Parks and Walnut continues during the streetcar’s track installation. Check The Banks’ website at www.thebankspublicpartnership.com for updates on concrete pours and related detours.
