Other streetcar work
Farther north on the streetcar route, crews installed overhead wire along a U-shaped stretch on the southern edge of Washington Park this morning, Wednesday, May 13. The wire was hung on Race Street at 13th to 12th, on 12th between Elm and Race in front of the School for Creative and Performing Arts and on Elm from 12th to Grant at Memorial Hall. Streets didn't close but motorists in the area may have been delayed periodically as crews worked their way from Race to 12th to Elm. Crews were accompanied by police escort.
This was the last major stretch of wire to be installed for the Over-the-Rhine loop. Crews installed wire on Elm to Henry in January, on Henry from Elm to Race in March and on Race to 13th in April. The wire, which will be held in place nearly 20 feet above the track by a series of poles, will carry 750-volt DC current to power the streetcar.
In addition, crews will be grinding and paving the eastbound lanes (south side) of Central Parkway between Race and Walnut this week from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Instructional signage will direct motorists around the work site. Crews will finish paving Race Street from Findlay Street to Green Street next week instead of this week, as previously scheduled.
