CINCINNATI – Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets will be closed from 6:00 a.m. Sunday, July 19, through 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 24 so crews may install special curved track for the Cincinnati Streetcar.
“This section of track forms an ‘S’ shape as it transitions from one side of the street to the other,” said John Deatrick, streetcar project executive. “Installing curved track is more complex than straight track, and will require additional space for equipment and the entire week to complete the process.”
Please note: Lane restrictions along this stretch of Main Street begin today, Thursday, July 16, to allow crews to excavate and prepare for the rail’s installation.
Through traffic will be allowed and Metro will operate its normal route today. However, Metro will relocate all of its Government Square stops to the south side of Fifth Street at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, July 17. Signs will be posted at current stops to direct bus patrons. Check www.go-metro.com for more details.
Motorists traveling on Main Street will be detoured east at Fifth, north at Broadway, west on Sixth and north again on Main.
Local vehicular access to businesses and residences on Main Street will be maintained, as well as pedestrian access. The midblock crosswalk between Fifth and Sixth will be closed. Pedestrians will be directed to cross via Fifth and Sixth streets.
Cincinnati Police will be on site to help direct traffic tomorrow, Friday, July 17, and every day next week. Detour signage will be posted.
Crews are expected to finish track work on Main Street from Central Parkway to Second Street by November. This is the last, major stretch of the route whose track is still under construction.
