CINCINNATI – Race Street will be closed between Fifth and Fourth streets for two weeks beginning at 6:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, until 9:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, to allow for the continued demolition of a 10-story garage. Crews will be removing the southernmost pedestrian skywalk that spans Race Street and connects to Mabley Place garage.
Motorists heading south on Race Street will be detoured east on Fifth, south on Walnut, west on Fourth and south again on Race.
Local access will be allowed, and accommodations for deliveries to nearby businesses have been arranged.
Valet service for Saks Fifth Avenue and the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland hotel will remain open via Fifth Street. Access to Mabley Place will remain via the garage’s Fourth Street entrance.
The sidewalk on the west side of Race Street will be closed between Fourth and Fifth streets. The sidewalk on the east side of Race will be closed south of the Carew Tower Arcade entrance.
Detour signage will be posted to help direct motorists and pedestrians.
The western two lanes of Race Street will remain closed between Nov. 7 and Nov. 23, so crews may continue demolition.
The rectangular-shaped garage extends a full city block on the north side of Fourth Street between Race and Elm streets.
Demolition will continue through fall and winter. The site is being cleared to make room for construction of a mixed-use residential and commercial tower.
The curb lane and sidewalks around the site on Elm, Fourth and Race streets will remain closed until demolition is complete in February 2017.
