CINCINNATI – Elm Street will be closed between Fourth and Fifth streets beginning at 6:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, through 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, as crews continue demolition of a 10-story parking garage. Crews will use a wrecking ball to remove the Elm Street side of the garage
nearest Fourth Street and mid way along Elm.
Motorists traveling on Elm will be detoured west on Fourth, north on Central Avenue, east on Fifth and north again on Elm.
Through access will be maintained on Fourth Street.
Detour signs will be posted to help direct motorists and pedestrians. Local access to businesses and residences will be allowed.
Demolition will take approximately six months to complete because of the size and location of the garage. The site, which is connected by skywalks to Mabley Place and Saks Department Store, is being cleared to make room for construction of a mixed-use residential and commercial tower.
Crews plan to close Fourth Street, Race or Elm on various dates over the next several months to do the parts of the demolition that require a wrecking ball. Updates will be sent in advance of future road closures.
During the week, crews will focus on interior demolition.
The curb lane and sidewalks around the site on Elm, Fourth and Race streets will remain closed until demolition is complete in February 2017.
