CINCINNATI – Central Parkway will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic between Walnut and Main streets this weekend so crews may install track for the Cincinnati Streetcar. The closure, which starts at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, will be in place until 7:00 a.m. Monday, April 27.
Through traffic will be allowed on both Main and Walnut. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained, as well as pedestrian access.
Motorists will be directed around the site via Main or Walnut. Those traveling west on Central Parkway will be detoured north at Main Street, west on 12th, south on Walnut and west again on Central Parkway. Motorists traveling east on Central Parkway will be detoured south on Walnut, east on East Court, north on Main and east again on Central Parkway.
Please see the map below for details about the detour.
Detour signage, including electronic arrow boards, will be posted. Cincinnati police will be on site Friday through the evening rush hour to help with traffic flow.
Other streetcar work
Crews will be installing overhead wire along Race Street between Henry and 12th overnight tonight from midnight until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, April 23. The street will not be closed but motorists on Race may be delayed periodically as crews work their way down Race from Findlay Market to Washington Park. The crew will be accompanied by police escort.
This is the second major stretch of wire to be installed for the Over-the-Rhine loop. Crews installed wire along Elm in January. The wire, which will be held in place nearly 20 feet above the track by a series of poles, will carry 750-volt DC current to power the streetcar.
