CINCINNATI – Crews performing full-depth patching and other prep work have moved into East Price Hill, West Price Hill and Riverside this week. Work is scheduled to start on streets in Lower Price Hill, Spring Grove Village, Mt. Airy and Winton Hills by the middle of next month.

This work is part of the city’s first comprehensive preventative maintenance program since 1999, covering a total of 262 streets in 18 neighborhoods this year.

The city plans to spend approximately $3 million annually on preventative maintenance through June 30, 2021 with funding from its Capital Acceleration Plan (CAP).

Preventative maintenance is being done in phases this summer, beginning with excavation or patching and concluding with surface treatments. All work is slated to finish by early October.

Work started in Roselawn, Bond Hill and CUF (Clifton Heights, University Heights and Fairview) in June. Work began in Clifton, Mt. Auburn and Heights earlier in July.

The type of work varies, depending on the condition of each street but generally will include:
  • Repairing failed pavement bases with new asphalt
  • Sealing cracks in existing street surfaces
  • Applying surface treatments such as slurry, chip or cape seal
Certain work may require parking or driving restrictions. Residents and businesses affected by the work will receive notice approximately 48 hours in advance.

The contractor also will post “no parking” signs prior to the start of work, as needed, per street. In most cases, temporary restrictions will be in place for less than 24 hours and a street will be reopened by 6:00 p.m. Violators will be towed per city ordinance.

Crews generally work 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday but are allowed to work later into the evening or on Saturdays.

All roads will be reopened to through traffic during non-work hours.

Any rescheduled work will be performed the following day, in most cases. Updates will be sent, if needed.

CINCINNATI – Crews have begun $7.6 million in extensive repairs to 44 streets in Kennedy Heights, Madisonville, Pleasant Ridge, Avondale, North Avondale, Corryville and Evanston.

The work, which includes grinding off existing roadway surfaces, full-depth repairs and a new surface layer of pavement, is funded as part of the city’s Capital Acceleration Plan. The rehab portion of CAP totals $9.9 million this year, covering eight neighborhoods, 50 streets and 37 lane miles of improvements.

Another $2.3 million in rehabilitation on six streets has begun in Northside, starting this week with Spring Grove Avenue at Elmore Street to Crawford Avenue.

Most of the major, full-depth repairs in Kennedy Heights, Madisonville, Pleasant Ridge, Avondale, North Avondale, Corryville and Evanston have been made. Reconstruction of Highland Avenue near the Lester Road intersection in Pleasant Ridge was completed last week and has been reopened. Crews are now grinding and leveling streets.

Please see below for a complete list of streets scheduled for rehabilitation this summer.
The type of work varies based on the condition of each street but generally includes:
  • Grinding and paving
  • Replacing curbs and curb ramps
  • Repairing driveway aprons and sidewalks, as required
  • Adjusting utility castings to grade
  • Final surface coat of new pavement
  • Line striping
Typical work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Crews may work later into the evening and on Saturdays, if needed.
Rehab work takes about two months to complete per street. On most streets, at least two lanes will remain open to through traffic during repairs. Local access to residences and businesses will be available at all times.

All roads will be reopened to through traffic during non-work hours.

On-street parking may be prohibited, as needed, to accommodate crews. Signs will be posted in advance to allow motorists time to find alternate parking options. In most cases, these temporary restrictions will be in place for less than 24 hours and a street will be reopened by 6:00 p.m. Violators will be towed per city ordinance.

All work is expected to be complete by Dec. 1. Look for updates throughout the summer.
For questions about the project, contact Dave Krusling, Senior Engineer, Department of Transportation, at 513-352-3479 or dave.krusling@cincinnati-oh.gov.
