CINCINNATI – The intersection of Race Street and West Freedom Way will be closed starting today, Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 15, so crews may remove crosswalk and sidewalk pavers, repair the waterproof membrane underneath and pour replacement concrete.

The process will last three weeks because it takes additional time to excavate atop the elevated streets and allow concrete to cure after it is poured. The new concrete will be dyed to match the existing pavers.

Motorists who wish to travel eastbound on Freedom Way will be detoured via Elm Street to Second to Rosa Parks/Vine Street and back to Freedom Way.

Westbound motorists will be detoured north on Rosa Parks, west on Third Street, south on Central Avenue and west again on Mehring Way.

Local access to the Central Riverfront Garage entrance on Race Street will be allowed while work is underway.

Detour signage directing motorists and pedestrians also will be posted in the area.

Meanwhile, crews continue working on the adjacent Race Street extension south of Freedom Way and 690-space garage. This project, which is part of the Phase IIIA infrastructure improvements at The Banks, is on schedule to finish by early fall.
