CINCINNATI – Crews will be installing track for the Cincinnati Streetcar on Walnut Street through its intersection with Fifth Street this weekend. The work will require the closure of Fifth Street between Vine and Walnut beginning at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, to 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 9. Two lanes on Walnut will remain open through the intersection.
Motorists traveling on Fifth Street will be detoured north at Vine, eastbound on Seventh, south on Walnut and eastbound again at Fifth. See the attached map for detour information. Also noted on the map are road closures and lane restrictions related to major construction and other projects taking place downtown and at The Banks.
Detour signage related to the track work on Walnut and Fifth streets will be posted. Pedestrian access will be maintained with instructional signage posted, as needed.
Metro’s Government Square will remain open, though stops at the northwest corner of Fifth and Walnut will be closed. Bus stop detour signs will be posted at affected stops. Riders should check Metro’s website and Twitter page for more information: www.go-metro.com and @cincinnatimetro.
Meanwhile, streetcar crews continue to prep the area farther south on Walnut through its intersection with Second Street. The stretch of Walnut between Second and Freedom Way is closed to through traffic periodically during the day until at least March 6, as crews excavate and prepare for the installation of track where Walnut curves into Second. Local access is maintained. Area lane restrictions remain in place near the site.
