CINCINNATI – All lanes on Fifth Street will be closed between Vine and Walnut beginning at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, through 6:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, so crews can repair underground beams that hold exhaust grates for the Fountain Square North garage.
The north and sound curb lanes on Fifth will reopen in time for Monday morning rush hour but the center lanes may remain closed for approximately one more week if needed for crews to finish the repairs.
During the full closure this weekend, motorists heading east on Fifth Street will be detoured north on Vine, east on Seventh, south on Walnut and east again on Fifth. Detour signs and an arrow board will be posted to help direct motorists around the site.
The midblock crosswalk will be closed for equipment staging. Pedestrians will be directed to cross Fifth Street at existing crosswalks on the corners of Vine and Walnut streets.
The center lanes of Fifth Street have been closed in this stretch since city engineers discovered the cracked beams during an inspection earlier in the fall. A temporary repair was in place while new beams were being designed and fabricated.
