DEMOLITION DETAILS
  • Demolition of the middle podium between the north and south towers continues
  • Begin prep for south podium demolition
  • Interior non-structural demolition in north tower continues on floor 20, and starting on floors 19 and 18
  • Underground gas line work on 5th Street, May 3 - May 5 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily

TRAFFIC IMPACT 
  • 5th Street: Additional lane closures, as needed, for underground gas line work
    • Flaggers on site to help manage traffic, including entrance and exit at the Hyatt Hotel
  • Elm Street between 5th and 6th streets remains closed through  June 20222
ACCESS ​
  • Sidewalk along Elm Street between 5th and 6th streets open
    • Expected to remain open until Memorial Day unless there is an unexpected public safety issue​
  • Public access to convention center via entrance at the corner of 5th and Elm
  • ADA ramp also open at 5th and Elm
  • Dock on on north side of convention center along 6th Street open for deliveries

    Demolition of the former Millennium Hotel complex is using cranes and other heavy equipment to clear the site for future redevelopment.

    Site includes a 34-story tower and five-story annex building to the north along Sixth Street and a 24-story tower to the south along Fifth, as well as a skywalk over Sixth and a skywalk that connects to the Duke Energy Convention Center over Elm.

    Expected Completion:
    June 2022
