THIS WEEK
  • North Tower:
    • Demolition of the 28nd floor to finish.
    • Begin demolition of 27th floor - exterior concrete walls and slab.
  • South Tower:
    • ​Demolition of 21th floor continues - concrete slab. 

CURRENT TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
  • Elm Street between 5th and 6th streets remains closed through June of next year: 2022.​
    • Detour: Motorists traveling north on Elm are being detoured west at Fourth and east at Fifth. 
  • Sidewalk along Elm Street between 5th and 6th adjacent to the convention center closed due to tower demo.

ACCESS ​
  • Public access to convention center via entrance at the corner of 5th and Elm
  • ADA ramp also open at 5th and Elm
  • Dock on on north side of convention center along 6th Street open for deliveries

    overview

    Demolition of the former Millennium Hotel complex is using cranes and other heavy equipment to clear the site for future redevelopment.

    Site includes a 34-story tower and five-story annex building to the north along Sixth Street and a 24-story tower to the south along Fifth, as well as a skywalk over Sixth and a skywalk that connects to the Duke Energy Convention Center over Elm.

    Expected Completion:
    June 2022
